DON'T WAIT
Take advantage of free online trainings. NOW is always when we need to protect children. During this time of children being stuck at home due to COVID-19, we need to adjust techniques and policies to help prevent child sexual abuse, and of course any type of abuse. Many children experience increased risk by being at home.
If you are someone who is in contact with children, especially online, maybe a teacher, ministry leader, relative, or friend, use these opportunities to be aware and observant. Ask the child/youth, "How are you doing at home?" "Do you feel safe?" "Is there anything you need that you don't have access to?" Asking open-ended questions can provide opportunity for the child or youth to express needs, concerns, or even hints that everyrthing is not okay. Look for clues that could be physical signs of abuse, things just not "looking right" in the home when you're able to see the child via video, changes in behavior, or just a feeling you have that something isn't right. If there is any question about someone's safety, please do not hesitate to call for help. Call your local law enforcement agency. They are there to help.
